Dr. Mangione-Smith is vice president for research and health care innovation at Kasier Permanente Washington and executive director of Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI).  Mangione-Smith is also a senior investigator at the institute, pursuing research on improving care for children and others throughout their lifespan. Her research focuses on assessing the quality of care and implementation by developing and evaluating improvement interventions in areas, such as transitions between states of care and hospital-based care for mental health and respiratory illnesses.
